Binghamton University Red Cross Club

Founded in the mid 1990's, BURCC works directly with the Binghamton Blood Drive Chapter of the American Red Cross to organize campus blood drives, including blood drives with other student groups. Members table before the drive occurs, and also help with canteening and registration during the actual blood drive.

Charles Drew Minority Pre-Health Society

The Charles Drew Pre-Health Society is an organization that is dedicated to assisting students in pursuing careers in the health professions.The Society volunteers its services for the purpose of heightening the awareness and understanding of issues in health, medicine, and science, in general as they relate to all members of the community. Through the various interactions and activities that it offers, students can gain the knowledge, skills, and abilities to interact appropriately within multicultural and diverse environments, required for competency within the medical field.
Community Service Opportunities: Community service offers a great opportunity for students to find out what motivates them to enter the health professions. Each month the Society offers activities that are mainly general in basis, as well as more long-term commitment arrangements, like the MAPS mentoring program. It also co-sponsors events with the Community Service Network.

Circle K

Circle K International shares the focus of serving the children of the world. In support of this effort, the Circle K International service initiative is focusing on the future: Children.

Habitat for Humanity

Since 1976 Habitat has built more than 50,000 houses with families throughout the US and another 100,000 plus houses in communities around the world. Now at work in 92 countries, we are building a house every 26 minutes.The Binghamton University chapters works with Broome County Habitat for Humanity and welcomes all people to assist with building simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate shelter.

Harpur's Ferry Student Volunteer Ambulance Service

Since 1973, Harpur's Ferry Student Volunteer Ambulance Service has provided Binghamton University students, faculty, staff, and surrounding communities with the highest standard of care. HFSVAS is a completely volunteer, student-run ambulance service with approximately 140 dedicated members. HFSVAS is called to over 500 emergencies a year and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using four emergency vehicles: Two Advanced Life Support Ambulances using 12-lead monitoring technology, one ALS fly-car and one BLS Chief's Car.
Required Training/Applications: Four hours of training and an interview are required.

High Hopes Crisis Intervention Center
Contact: x7HELP and x7DRUG
High Hopes Crisis Intervention Center is a 24-hour, student-run crisis, counseling and information hotline. Counselors always listen to any concerns a caller may want to discuss. Callers are helped to recognize their options and are encouraged to solve their problems on their own. High Hopes also has information and referrals concerning pregnancy, AIDS, STDs, birth control, drugs and many other topics. Each semester High Hopes welcomes all students interested in training to become counselors.

NYPIRG
Since 1973, NYPIRG has played the key role in fighting for more than 120 public interest laws and executive orders. NYPIRG's 20 college campus charters provide much of NYPIRG's energy, resources, and activism.

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers - SHPE
The SHPE Binghamton student chapter is an engineering/science organization based in the Watson School. We wish to develop and participate in programs with industry and the University that benefit students seeking technical degrees. SHPE provides students with opportunities to network and advance their careers, to build leadership and teamwork skills, to develop socially and professionally, and to encourage students to become active leaders and contributors to the community.

Student Environmental Action Coalition

SEAC, pronounced, "seek," is a student and youth run national network of progressive organizations and individuals whose aim is to uproot environmental injustices through action and education. We define the environment to include the physical, economic, political and cultural conditions in which we live. By challenging the power structure, which threatens these environmental conditions, SEAC works to create progressive social change on both the local and global levels.

The Student Volunteer Center's mission is to enhance and expand student involvement through meaningful community service. Alpha Phi
Alpha Phi sponsors philanthropies supporting cardiac aid, such as the heartbreaker's event in the fall. Alpha Phi also participates in events such as the March of Dimes and the American Heart Walk. Each sister is extremely united with the others, making friendship a bond to last forever.

Alpha Xi Delta dedicates a great deal of time and money to its current philanthropies; Choose Children and the American Lung Association. It also hosts a variety of Excell Programs to aid and inform members, including workshops on self-defense and eating disorders.

Delta Sigma Theta
We are a public service organization and since our inception on January 13, 1913, Delta women all over the world have worked to execute Delta's five point program in areas such as education, economic development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement. The chapter charter here at BU in 1985 is involved in community service such as career development forums, clothing/penny/toy drives, sisterhood workshops, discussions on AIDS and other health issues, and mentoring programs with the Broome County Urban League.

Lambda Phi Epsilon
Since its inception in 1981, Lambda Phi Epsilon, the first and only national Asian interest fraternity has grown tremendously. Lambda Phi Epsilon promotes the characteristics of brotherhood among men, academic achievement, social interaction and community service. Although Lambda Phi Epsilon emphasizes Asian culture the fraternity does not discriminate against those of non-Asian descent, nor does it seek to inhibit their participation. Members believe that through their diversity they draw and gain strength.

La Unidad Latina Lambda Upsilon Lambda
We provide Latino students with the academic, cultural, and social support necessary to excel in institutions of higher education. We increase opportunities for Latino children and adolescents to achieve in elementary and secondary schools. We develop leaders that shall provide, develop, and implement the tools for community empowerment. We inspire ethnic pride and cultural awareness in the Latino community and we support the efforts of enhancing the growth and well-being of the Latino community.

Omega Phi Beta
We have worked with Mom's house, SOS Shelter for Battered Women and March of Dimes, among others. In addition, its philanthropy is the National AIDS foundation, for which the organization has established banquets, workshops and speakers addressing the issue pertaining to its community as a whole.

This Latin American fraternity, the oldest existing Latin fraternity, was founded in 1931 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Sigma Psi Zeta
In 1999, the sisters of SYZ formally adopted our National Philanthropy, to combat violence against women. The first Asian Interest sorority to take on this very worthwhile cause, SYZ hopes to bring awareness to our universities and communities about this large issue. For over four years Sigma sisters have built a campaign to help those affected by this tragic violence, to educate the community about the nature of this problem, and to empower our sisters to make a lasting commitment to the issue of violence against women.

The rho xi chapter was chartered in 1991 and since then has been involved with the March of Dimes, soup kitchens, mentoring at Woodrow Wilson elementary school, blue and white Christmas at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center, forums catered to the college community and other community service activities.
